[The 3-2 pitch...]

Clothesline Project!
On Wednesday October 20th from 10:30am-2pm New Beginnings will be at North Seattle Community College hosting an information booth! We’ll be part of a special on-campus event called the Clothesline project which speaks specifically to raising awareness about DV. If you’re not familiar with the project, read more here! Stop by if you’re in the neighborhood at the Baxter Events Center!

AND we’ll be at Shoreline Community College on Friday October 22nd from 11am-2pm as part of their Clothesline project at the PUB Lobby-9000 Bldg.

We’re always looking for volunteers to help us staff the information booth so let me know if you can!

Help the Help Line!
Want to volunteer on our Help Line at our Community Advocacy Program? We need folks to staff our Wednesday AM (9am-1pm), Thursday PM (1-5pm), and Friday PM (1-5pm) slots!

Green Thumbs
Our Transitional Housing Program went through quite a bit of remodeling recently and we’re looking for one (or more) dedicated landscaping volunteers to help out a few times a month with keeping the grounds looking nice!

Legal Clinic!
Our Legal Clinic needs you! We’re looking for a volunteer to commit to our Wednesdays spot from 1-4:30pm!

In Memory
On October 27th at noon, the University of Washington’s police department will be hosting a memorial walk for victims of domestic violence. The walk honors six people who lost their lives from domestic violence on campus. Walk starts at noon and New Beginnings will be there also.

##
And finally..

As many of you know, October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month. Across the United States, people are gearing up to bring attention to this important issue and to get the community involved. Whether you’re a survivor, volunteer, donor, supporter or know someone whose life has been affected by domestic violence, please join us as we work to create social change to end domestic violence.

We invite you to do two things:

1. Spread the Word - We’ll be canvassing our neighborhoods until November 16th with this poster to bring attention to domestic violence and to urge others to become involved. Our goal is to have these at every place of work, every library, coffee shop, doctor’s office, community center and so on. Commit to taking at least three posters and distributing these in your community. Why three? On average, three women in the U.S. are killed by a current or former intimate partner each day. You can pick up these posters at our office Monday-Friday (or at the place you volunteer at), just let us know when you’ll be coming by! Please also email us which places you’re visiting so we can keep a tally and send them a thank-you note for participating in our campaign.

2. Make a Change: Commit to doing one thing to end domestic violence that you’re not already doing. That could be anything! Commit to talking to your workplace about how they support victims of DV on the job. Commit to helping us with our postering campaign. Commit to speaking at one fundraising event for New Beginnings. We’d love to hear what you’re doing and we’ll be compiling a list of our action as a community.
