Cats love bread and chocolate! |
On February 10th, New Beginnings donors and supporters converged upon the Theo Chocolate Factory in Fremont to celebrate loving relationships with stories, wine and of course, chocolate! Just as we work so diligently as a community to end domestic violence, it is also important to recognize healthy and positive relationships.

Patrick on the bass! |
On April 11th, Patrick Ferris and Bluegrass community at the Tractor Tavern raised over $2000 for New Beginnings. It was truly a community effort where everyone chipped in.
The 2010 Gala Committee! |
On May 22nd at the Hyatt at Olive 8, our generous donors raised over $250,000 to fund our programs and services. Highlights of the night included, a dessert dash that would make NFL running backs proud, an emotional speech by a survivor of domestic violence, and of course all the great auction items.
It's A New Day! |
New Beginnings on New Day Northwest
Throughout the season, King 5’s New Day Northwest hosted by Margaret Larsen devoted a great deal of time to issues of domestic violence. New Beginnings was honored to provide information and resources and our wonderful staff, board and supporters appeared on the show to talk about teen dating violence, spotting domestic violence in the workplace and much more.Volunteer of the Month Recognition Kicks Off!
In June, New Beginnings recognized it’s first volunteer of the month winner: Tom Patrick. Tom’s commitment as a loyal shelter volunteer for over twelve years is such a big help to our families. We are lucky to have wonderful volunteers like Tom!

Steps Against Domestic Violence
On October 3rd, New Beginnings was the recipient of funds raised at the Seattle Steps Against Domestic Violence at Greenlake. Longtime supporter of New Beginnings, Arthur Peach, was on New Day Northwest along with New Beginnings' Lead Children's Advocate, Kiana Swearingen to promote the event and raise awareness.
City Council Budget Hearings
Throughout the fall, New Beginnings made a presence at City Council budget hearings representing not only victims of domestic violence but also those impacted by cuts to social services as a whole. We are very thankful to the survivors and advocates that gave testimony during these hearings. The Seattle City council has video recordings of each budget hearing here.
In October, we broke the 1000 “likes” barrier as a Facebook group. We are a small community that is growing rapidly and we are very grateful for all of your comments, “likes” and most of all your readership as we continue our mission. Check out our Q&A with our 1,000th fan who is coincidentally a new New Beginnings volunteer!
Busload of gifts not all shown |
In December, volunteers and donors stepped up in a big way for the women and children we serve. Our offices were filled with new toys, household items, clothes and gift cards to make the winter months a little easier for those in need. A big shout out goes to the fine folks at Holland America Line who arrived with (literally) a busload full of donations.

Literally every event you see here, volunteers played a big role in making it all happen and for that we are very, very grateful. We can't wait to see what 2011 has in store and we're glad to have you our dedicated volunteers as part of that effort.
Have a safe new year's everyone.
