Fashion show, Mother-Daughter luncheon and a sermon all rolled into one!

["We should've gotten YouTube to come out and film this."]

This past weekend we were invited to Freedom Church's Mother Daughter Luncheon and Fashion Show benefitting New Beginnings! We were there on hand to talk about New Beginnings and we met some great folks who were all passionate about ending domestic violence.

First we got a chance to meet Miss Plus America Latasha Haskins who kindly posed for a picture with us.

We then got to hear Minister Sheila Dean speak and she had some powerful words about speaking up, being a community and standing up against domestic violence.

Then, we were treated with song before a brief prayer.

At that point, we saw one of the three step-dance performances for the day.

Then Minister Dean came back to the podium and delivered a line I will never forget (on the heels of the step performance): "See these girls are here dancing, shakin' it and talking about God. How wonderful is that? I was shakin' it when I was young. I was shakin' it so much, I shook out some 4-5 kids."

And then we were off to lunch and I had probably the best macaroni/tuna salad in my life that the good folks at Freedom Church made.

Then it was part one of the mother-daughter fashion show.

Next we got to hear Miss Plus America Latasha talk about her own personal experience with domestic violence and some of the great work she's doing on her national tour. Latasha's speech talked also about the three steps you need to take/questions you should ask yourself in pursuing goals in life.

#1. Get real with where you're at.
#2. Where do you want to be?
#3. What are the steps to get there?

Simple and straight to the point, well said.

Notice the sign on top! Whoo! That's us!

It was a great event and many thanks to everyone at Freedom Church for inviting us and supporting New Beginnings!
